Frequently Asked Questions

What can I expect from my first appointment?

Your first session (about 60 minutes) is dedicated to gathering and synthesizing your medical, social, dietary, and lifestyle history. This is foundational for our personalized approach. Everyone has different goals and expectations, and we aim to meet you there while offering expert guidance. You will leave the first session with 1-3 tailored goals, and future visits will build on these, adjusting based on your needs and desired outcomes. Various interventions and treatment plans may be included.

Note: We do not see patients currently in eating disorder treatment or recovery.

Do I need a follow up? How often should I see the dietitian?

Yes—most people benefit from follow-up visits. Frequent touch points at the start of your journey (every 2–3 weeks) tend to lead to better outcomes. As you gain confidence and make progress towards your goal(s), we may space out visits to monthly or every few months.

Less sessions are needed if you come for primary education on a specific topic. For example, you were diagnosed with celiac disease and need primary education on foods to avoid. We can accomplish that in 1-2 sessions.

We try to meet our patients where they are relative to their health goals and design treatment plans that fit their lifestyles and financial budgets.

Will I get meal plans?

We do not love meal plans for several reasons. They do not teach you how to eat well. Most patients do not follow them. They are not unique to your food preferences!

The dietitian can teach you how to create your own meal plans using a practical model. This allows flexibility to listen to your cravings, avoid foods that do not agree with you, enjoy cultural food favorites, and so much more!

Do you take insurance?

No, but we can provide a Superbill for insurance reimbursement.

Can I have Labs and Advanced Diagnostic tests order through the Dietitian?

Yes. Not everyone wants lab work done, and it is not always covered by your insurance. For an additional fee-for-service cost, the dietitian can order advanced diagnostic tests like nutritional blood work testing, stool, urine, and salivary analysis testing. She can also refer you to nutritional genetic testing.
